PHLF Opens New Housing Resource Center

Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation would like to announce the launch of the Landmarks Housing Resource Center, located at 744 Rebecca Ave. (at Jeanette St.) in the Hamnett Place neighborhood of Wilkinsburg.

The Landmarks Housing Resource Center (LHRC) provides educational sessions to homeowners, prospective homeowners and landlords on topics ranging from restoring your historic home, to making your home more energy efficient, to creating an urban garden. The LHRC is one of PHLF’s major initiatives for the year, and we invite you to celebrate with us. Please join us at any of our October events to learn more about the LHRC:

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16TH
1. COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE / 11:00 AM — 12:30 PM / free. Michael Sriprasert, PHLF Director of Real Estate Development, will give a short presentation and answer questions on the latest regarding PHLF’s work in Wilkinsburg. Light refreshments will be served.

2. YOUR BIG BACKYARD / hosted by GTECH Strategies / 12:45 PM — 2:15 PM / $7. Everything you always wanted to know about greening vacant lots! Learn how to analyze your site, perform a soil test, add compost and soil amendments, grow cover crops, and more!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23RD
3. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE / hosted by Construction Junction / Saturday, October 23, 12:45 PM — 2:15 PM / $7. This workshop will focus on how to effectively use Construction Junction’s inventory of used and surplus building materials and services to save money and the environment on your next renovation project.

4. WILKINSBURG WALKING TOUR / hosted by Tracy Evans, Lazae LaSpina, Michael Sriprasert and Louise Sturgess / Saturday, October 23, 2:30 PM — 4:30 PM / free. So much is happening in Wilkinsburg. Join PHLF and its partners to tour several historic properties that have been restored or are in the process. Learn about the partnerships working to revitalize the neighborhood. We invite you to dine at Ms. Jean’s Southern Cuisine afterwards.
