What Is March to the Mailbox?
A “Neighborhood Outreach Event ” that will be carried out in hard-to-count areas where census employees and volunteers will walk through the area urging residents to complete their bar-coded questionnaire and mail it back.

Why?
To increase the mail back response: About $85 million is saved for every one percent increase in mail participation.
The Census Bureau saves $57.00 per household if the form is returned by mail.
An undercount can cost a loss of millions of dollars to your community

What’s in it for me?
1. Getting a good count in the 2010 Census ensures the proper amount of funding for your community for the next 10 years, over $400 billion/year.
2. Representation – Census Data affect your voice in congress by determining how many seats each state will have in the US House of Representatives
3. Local Planning – Where to build new roads, schools, hospitals, child-care and senior centers, as well as continued funding for existing services.

How will volunteers have to do?
• Volunteer the weekend of Saturday, April 10th. From the hours of 12:00 to 4:00PM
• Door-to-door flyer distribution or on at busy intersection.
• Host an event with speakers, music, and donated food
• Stand Outside a Post Office (off-property in public space) and distribute flyers
• Ask residents to place National Neighborhood Blitz Lawn Signs one week prior to blitz and remove them by April 19th

Call for volunteers.
If you or your organization is able to help us with this event, please let us know. We need as many people as possible. T-shirts, hats, signs, and flyers will be provided to the volunteers.
