Wilkinsburg Plan Meetings Announced

The Wilkinsburg Plan will be producing a flurry of activity in the Borough over the next few weeks. This 10-year comprehensive plan will determine future land use and development objectives within the Borough, as well as a strategy for revitalizing the Wilkinsburg business district. As key stakeholders in the future of Wilkinsburg, Borough residents, and business and civic leaders are invited to join Borough officials in a series of neighborhood meetings and workshops to assist in the planning process.

During the month of April, six neighborhood meetings will be conducted at various locations throughout the Borough. Each meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m. Meeting activities will be designed to gather input from neighborhood residents in areas such as housing, streets and highways, transportation, parks and open space, economic development, land use, and community facilities. The next phase of the business district revitalization planning process will be a charrette. The charrette is a multiple-day collaborative design and planning workshop held on-site that includes all stakeholders. Standard public meetings often do not provide adequate time for meaningful engagement. In contrast, this week-long event will bring the community together in an interactive, dynamic process designed to produce a realistic plan. Planned for the week of May 11-15, the charrette will take a holistic approach to issues such as land use, renovation, redevelopment, traffic, parking, open space, art, and amenities. Charrette afternoons will include committee work sessions and gallery open houses where interested citizens can review background information and comment on ongoing work. Two evening workshops will be interactive, hands-on planning sessions that explore alternatives, measure performance, balance costs and benefits, and integrate solutions. The concluding charrette evening session will be a public presentation of the preferred Business District Revitalization Plan. The schedule for public involvement in the charrette is as follows:

Location and Directions: The charrette will be held in Room 420 at the Hosanna House in Wilkinsburg at 807 Wallace Avenue. Please use the Wallace Avenue entrance, sign in at the front desk, and follow the signs to the Room 402.
