Students Receive Bond Awards

Two Wilkinsburg students each received a $100 government issued securities bond for an essay they wrote on the Real ID Act of 2005. Senior Godfrey McCray and junior Lamar Haden, both wrote a three-page essay identifying the pros and cons of the U.S. federal law. The students received their awards the first week of school. The Real ID Act imposes certain security, authentication and issuance procedures standards for the state driver’s licenses and state ID cards, in order for them to be accepted by the federal government for “official purposes”, as defined by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

“This is just a small example of how education pays off,” said McCray. “I had fun learning about this particular federal law and it didn’t seem like work,” he added.
