Dr. Helen Davis to receive Physician of the Year Award


The Gateway Medical Society’s Executive Committee has selected Dr. Helen Davis to receive the distinguished Oswald J. Nickens Physician of the Year Award to be presented at the Society’s Annual Scholarship Banquet, which raises funds to support minority medical students. This grand event is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center, Grand Ballroom.

The society’s executive committee unanimously selected Dr. Davis for her

service as a physician and her leadership in various organizations where she serves as mentor to colleagues, nurse providers and medical students to provide quality care to the greater Pittsburgh community.

Dr. Davis is board certified in ophthalmology and is a member of the

American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the International College of Students.

She has been practicing in the greater Pittsburgh area since 1987.

A 1978 graduate of Tufts Medical School, Dr. Davis completed her residency and fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. In addition, she completed a post-residency fellowship specializing in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, glaucoma and diabetic laser treatments. Before coming to the Pittsburgh area, Dr. Davis served as the Associate Chlef and Acting Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Wyman Park HeaIth Systems, a Baltimore, Maryland based affiliate of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Currently, Dr. Davis is the Medical and Surgical Director of the Davis Eye Group, and Civic HeaIth Institute.
